Current Position: Sales Manager for Catering at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino
Juan began his studies in 1995 as an undergraduate in the hotel and restaurant management program at the University of Puerto Rico, Carolina. His first love was culinary arts and he was determined to become an Executive Chef. While at the University of Puerto Rico, Juan participated in the Disney program and was a cook at the Tony’s Town Square Ristorante. He became kitchen manager at the Café Bohemio in 1998 and later honed his culinary skills at the Vineyard Room at the Ritz-Carlton, San Juan Hotel & Casino.
Juan graduated with honors from the UPR in June 2000 and began as a Management Trainee at the Hotel El Convento. This job gave him an opportunity to experience another side of the industry and Juan’s interest in hotel management, finance and accounting was piqued.
With the help of the Scholarship Foundation, Juan entered a fast track Master’s degree program in finance at Florida International University in August 2002. He graduated in September 2003 and returned to Puerto Rico to assume the position of Food and Beverage Director at the Hotel El Convento. He also became the first Alumni
Representative on the Board of Directors of the Scholarship Foundation.
In 2007, Juan was appointed Catering Sales Manager at The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan Hotel & Casino. He subsequently moved to the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino as Sales Manager in Catering. With his culinary and management background, Juan is a definite asset to the hospitality industry in Puerto Rico.
