Career Path:

Rubén attended Michigan State University pursuing Bachelor’s degree studies in hospitality management. During his senior year in 2000, he met Hugh Andrews in a seminar and as a result of the seminar Rubén developed a strong interest in hotel development. While studying at Michigan State and upon graduation, Rubén pursued his other main interest, food and beverage, working at the Marriott in East Lansing, Michigan and rising to the position of Restaurant Manager. His first job in Puerto Rico was at El Picoteo Bar & Tapas at the Hotel El Convento and subsequently as Food and Beverage Supervisor at the Caribe Hilton Hotel.

In 2002, Hugh Andrews knowing of Rubén’s interest in hotel development invited him to join the opening team of the Courtyard, Isla Verde. Rubén learned a great deal from this opportunity including reading and understanding architectural plans and drawings and supervising the construction contractors during the last phase of the hotel renovation.

In 2003, Rubén approached the Scholarship Foundation for a scholarship and was the recipient of the “Koffman Family Scholarship” to study for a Master’s degree in finance at Universidad Interamericana.

He has continued to work as Assistant to the CEO, Hugh Andrews, of International Hospitality Enterprises where he is involved in many of the hotel projects.
